Meet

Our Teams

Marc Suls

Marc Suls was born in 1961 in Ekeren and graduated as a veterinarian from the University of Ghent in 1985. He worked for six months at The Animal Health Trust in Newmarket (UK), specializing in orthopedics. He then collaborated for ten years with Leo de Backer (his mentor). For the past 30 years, Marc has operated a mobile practice and has supported various national teams at multiple championships and Olympic Games. As a veterinarian with a passion for innovation, he has contributed to scientific studies for innovative products and has developed and validated well-researched nutritional supplements in practice. He is the co-founder of GST and the equine clinic Via Nova, a center where he can share his knowledge and experience while continuing to research new treatment methods for horses with orthopedic conditions. Contemporary art is a great passion of Marc’s. In his scarce free time, he enjoys reading about it and visiting fairs and auctions.

Jan Spaas

Jan Spaas was born in 1986 and graduated as a veterinarian from the University of Ghent in 2010. He holds a Ph.D. in veterinary sciences from the same university, where he is currently a guest professor. He served as CEO of the stem cell company GST for 10 years, which was acquired by Boehringer Ingelheim in 2020 and successfully brought two stem cell-based medications to the European market. Jan is also the co-founder of the equine clinic Via Nova, which was acquired by Altano in 2022. He worked for the pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim for four years, spending two years in veterinary drug development in Athens, Georgia, and later in Germany as Global Head of Research for the veterinary division until the end of March 2024. Today, he is an active and passionate board member in various companies, continuing to be both a scientific entrepreneur and an entrepreneurial scientist. As an avid rider, he won two bronze medals at the European Jumping Championships and now spends his free time as much as possible with his wife and two daughters.

Griet Nuytinck

Griet Nuytinck graduated as a pharmacist-specialist in medical analyses at Ghent University. In 1978, she left Ghent University, where she was active as an assistant in the Toxicology department, and became a clinical biologist in Evergem. Today, she is the general director of Anacura (280 employees), an independent analytical laboratory active in healthcare and drug development. The group supports healthcare providers and patients by delivering evidence-based diagnostic tests and end-to-end analyses for biotech and pharma. Currently, her passionate mission is to pass Anacura on to the new generation. Griet likes to follow new insights into maintaining a healthy body and mind and practices this by walking and jogging, listening to and practicing classical music, and having good conversations. Additionally, she holds various board positions in these areas of interest.

Helene Boogaerts

Helene Boogaerts obtained her medical degree from the University of Antwerp in 2018. She then graduated as a clinical biologist in 2023 and also earned a master's degree in hospital hygiene. During her clinical biology training, she focused on the field of medical microbiology, with a particular interest in the human microbiome and molecular techniques.
